Grace Orphan Home
Michael and I weaved our way through the red cobble-stoned
pathways of the age-old city, Dulikel, situated just 40 km east of
Kathmandu. We followed the broken path, passing by a pool of forest green
water, decorated with Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction, standing tall with trident
in hand and his malevolent serpent draped around his neck. This was a stark
reminder of the penetrating darkness that engulfs this land. We had come to
this city to visit Michael’s uncle, Pastor Lila, his wife Rina and their 18 children
who live with them, Grace Orphan Home.
We arrived with a warm welcome of hugs and smiling faces.
What peace filled this happy home! They are truly a light piercing the
darkness. Later that evening the sweet voice of children arose by candlelight as they sang the well known hymn in their Nepali tongue, “Seek ye first the
Kingdom of God and His righteousness…” In the center of the room sat an <--- older
lady dressed in a sky-blue sari. She had been troubled beyond despair by an
evil spirit and chronic sickness. Just three weeks before, she experienced her
first taste of true peace and freedom as she opened her heart to Jesus. Praise
the Lord!
Trusting the Lord for PROVISION
Often when visiting Pastor Lila, I hear him praying through
the midnight hours. What brings someone to give up sleep and often food to seek
the Father’s face? Complete desperation for the God to show up. Pastor Lila is
a man of incredible faith as each month he relies on the Lord for provision to
feed, house and educate 18 children. When we visited him in March the children
were sleeping three to a bed. Since then the Lord has provided a new set of
bunk-beds. Knowing uncle Lila’s meek
heart and unwillingness to share their needs, I asked him how we could help. He said they still are in need of $150 a month to pay for eleven of the children’s school fees. He also said they are in need of a refrigerator ($500).
