Lord, show us YOUR glory

Greetings in Jesus' Name

The kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but a matter of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 16).

I have prayed many times over the familiar prayer that Elijah prayed, Lord, show me Your glory. I thought I was doing “well”, denying my life of pleasure in America and moving to the other side of the world to put my hand to the plow and not look back. Yet, I find myself in a whirlwind as I battle to see, touch and experience the fullness of the glory of God and His heavenly kingdom. I have yet to conquer this desire for earthly pleasures that keep me from the fullness of this heavenly glory.
Would I be content to live off $2 a day like most of the world that surrounds me? Michael has shared story after story of how he grew up with only his basic needs met: food, water, and a roof over his head. People here are concerned with just that...getting enough food for the day and having a safe place to sleep. Meanwhile, I have been concerned with the rat that has been wandering around our house and cockroaches in our kitchen, keeping our clothes clean, making sure our furniture and curtains match, and my meager earthly treasure: Michael’s gold ring, stolen by thieves.

How much do I treasure electricity and clean, warm water? My eyes have been opened to what I value, as I am learning to make dinner by candlelight and thank the Lord for the clean water that comes out of our sink and warm water to shower in.

John Piper is so bold to ask, “Are we in bondage to the pleasures of this world so that, for all our talk about the glory of God, we love television and food and sleep and sex and money and human praise just like everybody else? If so, let us repent and fix our faces like flint toward the Word of God in prayer: O Lord, open my eyes to see the sovereign sight that in your presence is fullness of joy and at your right hand are pleasures for evermore” Psalm 16

Furthermore, we all know there is an unseen world of good and evil, but the spiritual realm is more present here than ever. Every morning Michael and I wake up to the smoke of incense offered to Hindu gods seeping through our windows and ringing bells of the Hindu saints. As I walk up to our rooftop to hang our laundry, I pass by the temple shrine our owners have dedicated to their gods. Serpents and explicit idols too graphic to share are everywhere: in bus’s, shops, lining the streets, and under every green tree. Our meat shop has two fat, white rats (yes, real live, breathing rats) that sit on the counter next to the Bhudda idol. This outrageous darkness is a constant reminder of the battle we are in.

I write this email to ask for your prayers.

Revelation 8 tells of a different kind of incense than the eerie Hindu incense that seeps unwelcome through our window. This incense is the prayers of the saints which rises before the heavenly golden alter…“ The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of God's people, went up before God from the angel's hand.” These prayers are powerful as they rise before the very throne of God and are flung back to earth in “peals of thunder and sounds and flashes of lightning and an earthquake.”

Within this spiritual battle to see God’s Kingdom come and experience the fullness of His glory Michael and I ask for YOUR prayers.

Psalms 104:4 says we are ministers of “flaming fire”. Elisha called down fire from the heaven’s in 2 Kings 1:10. We also have supernatural power to call down heavenly fire. Fire of judgment on the heavenly realms of darkness that war against us(Ephesians 6:10-18) and the fire of the Holy Spirit to enflame our hearts with the love of Christ.
