CHITWAN CONFERENCE & CONCERT

The worship music of the Makwanpur concert faded, people were leaving, yet Maya -->, on bowed knee and red sari covering head, confessed her need for a Savior and asked Jesus’ Spirit to fill her life and heal her back pain. In the western world this is a rare occurrence but here in Nepal nearly every believer has a similar testimony of God’s healing power. Having traveled to 40 countries, Nepal stands unparalleled as I have seen and heard the power of God displayed in these simple people who live in the pristine valley’s and plains, harvesting rice and potatoes, overshadowed by the majestic Himalaya’s. Indeed many are poor in spirit but rich in the Kingdom, a ripe harvest ready to be reaped!
Bedridden and without hope of healing, Chini’s husband was
challenged to leave his cane by the bedside, stand up and walk in Jesus’ name.
In faith, he did just that. Experiencing the power of God’s love has given him
and his wife, Chini, a heart for evangelism. <-- Chini came to the Chitwan Conference to be
trained in effective evangelism. After our evangelism workshop, 50 students
were given the opportunity to put what they learned into practice. We divided
into groups and spread out to share the gospel. As Chini and I walked through
the small dirt pathway with green rice fields springing up on either side, she
would not let a person walk by without a kind smile and a meek boldness
declaring the love of her Savior. Though she cannot read or write she is
determined to be a mighty witness of the resurrection life found in Jesus. The
students gathered together at the finish of the conference to share testimonies
of what they had seen in the last 1-hour and a ½ of outreach evangelism. I was
encouraged by their testimonies- some had prayed with people to accept Christ,
other’s prayed for healing, and nearly a hundred people heard the gospel! Some
of these students shared that the Chitwan Conference “gave them new vision and
inspiration to share the Gospel with those around them.” Praise the LORD!
Perhaps you have heard the famous quote, “Missions exists
because worship does not.” Our mission, the great commission, is to make
disciples, worshipers of all nations. The testimony of Maya and Chini are just
two of many more that could be shared from the conference and concert in
Chitwan and Makawanpur, the Terai valley region of Nepal. Our team of nine was
given the opportunity by Eternity Minded Ministries to partner with the local
churches of Chitwan to hold a 2 day conference and concert where over a 150
young adults gathered together in passionate worship, fellowship and training and
over 200 men, women and children gathered together in a gospel concert.
The Nepali church is growing, but there is a lack in training
believers in the knowledge of the Word. Our team does not preach a health, wealth and prosperity gospel,
but rather one of reckless abandon to the cross of Christ. Our Lord urged His
disciples “those who worship Him [God] must
worship in spirit and truth” (John 4:24). Praise God that His Spirit is working
here as many people come to Christ through experiencing miracles of healing and
deliverance from demonic oppression but there is a lack of growth in the
knowledge of the truth of the Word.
The focus of this conference was to train up church leaders to worship in spirit and truth so they can lead others to worship in spirit and in truth. This one-day conference was composed of a variety of activity. We began by gathering together in fellowship and worship, Pastor Binod preached on the importance of worship and evangelism. The 150 young adults then chose between workshops that would best suit their calling in ministry- worship and evangelism. The next 4-½ hours were spent in various workshops. The worship workshop was lead by Pastor Binod and Michael. They trained 50 leaders in the “role of a worship leader” and the “responsibility of a worship leader”.
Michael said,
“I
have never done this before” mentality will always keep us in the same level of
life.
From
my teens I have been privileged and filled with joy to have the opportunity to
lead worship. I have also been ministering with the worship band, Himalayan
Rock for Christ (HRC) since 2007. My prayer has been that God would take me
higher and use my abilities and gifts as a worship leader to draw people closer
to God. Until now, God has been teaching me mysteries of His Word and revealing
His heartbeat. As I increase in knowledge, God has given me a passion to equip
other young worship leaders with the tools they need to lead God’s people in worship.

I
taught the workshop for worship leaders. These young worship leaders had a
hunger to learn as I could see the eagerness in their eyes. I challenged them
to check their hearts, for the heart of worship goes beyond singing songs. It
is about what we do off stage that really counts. Are we bringing God glory in
every area of life? This is the key to effective leadership in worship.
Our
team of nine was filled with joy to share and sharpen others with the God-given
skills we have received. We thank EMM and those who gave their time and finances
in support of this ministry.
This conference was the first of its kind held in Chitwan.
Many young adults are excited to be carriers of God’s presence and lead those
around them to do the same. Training these young leaders in the truth of God’s Word
and in worship is imperative to “make disciples” who truly “worship in spirit
and in truth”.
We have been able to connect with pastors in other districts of Nepal who have shown great interest in holding worship and evangelism conferences. Please pray for open doors to continue this work!
Thank you for your prayers and support!
