Uganda

Rudra, our new brother in Christ!
It was my first time to Africa.  I was excited to see what God had for us. Before our journey began, we met a Nepali man --> at the airport who was going to Qatar for work.  He looked very normal and gentle-spirited. We began to talk. He was very surprised and happy to find out that my wife was a foreigner. Our conversation went deep and we opened our hearts and thoughts about faith. I shared God’s love and after nearly 45 minutes I asked him, if he’d like to invite Jesus into his life. And he said YES!

The story doesn't stop here.  God was taking us on a journey to release His presence and share His goodness in different places from the…

Passionate evangelist who interpreted for us as
we did door-to-door evangelism. Blessed by this pastor!

Surrounded by banana trees and smiling children we gathered behind Pastor Joachim’s small house with believer’s from five village churches-the sole purpose-to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. We began the day with worship and a message from John 4. It was inspiring to see believers from these churches together for this one goal. We all rejoiced that over 50 people gave their life to Jesus that day. Many were from Muslim and Catholic faith.  It is our joy to share with you that the believers have been inspired by these two days of evangelism and want to continue to do this and follow up with each believer. Asia, Africa, America we are ONE, united in Christ!

Furthermore, we were able to visit Holly's good friends, Chief and Laura, who Pastor Nkumbu House of Prayer. We were able to participate in their Nativity Night, Sunday morning worship and have a worship workshop where worship leaders and members of worship teams came to learn about worship. We were encouraged to see their hunger to learn. There were nearly 30 youth from various local churches that came together to worship Jesus and be equipped. One young man shared “I never knew I could sing a Psalm through spontaneous worship, that’s awesome”- Frank (Worship leader).  I talked about the difference between Praise and Worship. I also shared different techniques of writing and singing music. Holly shared how purity is an act of worship.  Pastor Chief, said “This was so encouraging for these girls to hear Holly's testimony and to understand that purity is a part of worship” (Romans 12:1-2). Many girls came for prayer and asked God to restore their purity. Purity is one of the biggest challenges for girls in Uganda. Nearly all the youth came forward to ask for prayer and renewed fire from God. We believe the Holy Spirit is working in their lives and their hearts were stirred to gaze upon Jesus.

…To the source of the Nile River…
Michael and Nelson
“The witchdoctor made me drink the blood of a bird. I was tormented by demons. She cursed my family so that we could not go to school. After sometime I went to church and received deliverance through prayer. I took off the string that the witch had tied around my arm, since then I have not been tormented.” Nelson-->, a young man, shared his story of the saving power of Jesus. Now, working at a rolex stand, making "fast food", chapatti-rolled-eggs, barely make ends meet -earning a mere dollar a day. Yet, his passion to see revival in his country is more than inspiring. His vision is to intercede for Uganda by holding revival meetings in different districts beginning in his home town, Jinja. We gathered with him and a few believers at the source of the Nile to worship the Lord and intercede for his beloved Uganda on New Years Eve. We pray the Rivers of Living Water would quench the thirst of each longing soul.

Pastor Chief

Uganda is indeed a pearl, filled with smiling, kind-hearted faces, rolling green hills, rich in agriculture, a church on every corner, flooded with Christianity, but if you dig a little deeper you will see the chains of poverty, AIDS, the love of money, and the title of “Christianity” with no depth. WHO did a study on Uganda and their local moonshining of Waragi, homemade gin, and found that “Uganda’s overall alcohol consumption was an average of 17.6 liters per capita.” That makes Uganda the leading nation of the world. Let us continue to pray that the Church would be able to STAND, SET and LEAD by  example.

We were so blessed and encouraged to partner with Pastor Chief, his wife, Laura and son Musoke. We are encouraged by their passion and work in Nkumbu Community House of Prayer. Confidently believing God will do above and beyond all we can ask or imagine!

We thank you for partnering with us in prayer and support.

  1. Holly and Michael,

Thank you so much for choosing to pour your time, effort, funds, and love into Uganda this holiday. You were such a blessing to us as a family, to our church, our little community in Nkumba, and of course the village of Bwera. Holly, I feel so privileged to be one of your first friends to personally meet your wonderful husband Michael! From the moment you stepped into my life back in 2009 I have never been the same. Thank you for always loving me and for teaching me so much about CHRIST’S love!! Not that you consciously made it a point to teach me, but it just naturally happens when someone is in your presence…so the blog title “Light to the World” is truly so appropriate when it comes to you and your husband….you guys are so inspiring and I look forward to the next adventure we will share together! Thank you again for everything!! All 3 of us miss you guys..especially Musoke! May the Lord continue to give you both huge favor wherever you travel!
    Love,
    Laura
